About the event

LAO UNY welcomes Lao Heritage Foundation to our community all the way from Washington DC!

I'd like to first Congratulate you on all on being a part of this brand new program! Your support and dedication to the programs we bring to the community are vital to the growth of our organization and to the development of our community. Choosing to support our inaugural Lao Heritage Foundation Summer Camp that will be hosted at Wat Pa Lao Buddhadham will help to encourage others to become more engaged in creating impact together and helping to make a difference. We hope that the camp will inspire the campers to embrace more their diversity, heritage, and culture. We hope that the experience will leave participants with more knowledgeable and confidence when speaking about the heritage and encourage them to share it with others.

Our pilot day camp will be hosted starting Friday, August 16th at 9am through 4pm daily through Sunday, August 18th. This year's program will focus primarily on Lao music and will be headed by Xai Souphom , President of Lao Heritage Foundation with the assistance of Ajarn Noh from Luang Prabang's LHF program.

We are happy to announce that we have a great start to a tradition that we hope to build on in future years with 14 students pre-enrolled ranging in ages from 5-49! 12 of our students are 18 & under, 4 of which are under the age of 10. In addition, we also have the pleasure of 2 adult students joining our program as well.

Our day will open up with a morning assembly. This will allow everyone to become acquainted with one another and familiar with the day's activities upon everyone's arrival prior to going into the scheduled program. The day will then be broken into Learning Session, have scheduled breaks, lunch, cultural workshops, and a closure at the end of each day to recap what was learned and allow for reflection & discussions.

Our community has graciously received sponsors for all of our camper's lunches from Laotian American National Alliance (www.lana-usa.org), Frank Keophetlasy (frankkeophetlasy.com), and last but not least the temple's very own culinary specialists the 'Volunteers from the Heart'.

*Please be sure to specify any food allergies at time of Registration and Check in with the Camp Counselors.*
